    Cyclopam Tablets – how do they work, uses, benefits, and side effects

    Cyclopam is a combination prescription medicine. It is made up of two medicines. Dicyclomine and paracetamol. This medicine primarily treats spasmodic pain and pain in biliary, intestinal, and renal colic and spasmodic dysmenorrhoea. It is also used to alleviate the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome(IBS). 

    The dose and duration of the cyclopam tablet are based on the severity of the condition and your response to the medication. Let your doctor know if you are allergic to cyclopam or any other ingredients of cyclopam. Update about any history of liver, kidney, and heart diseases.

    Uses of cyclopam Tablet 

    Cyclopam tablet uses are follows:

    Biliary colic- It is a severe and uncontrollable crying in babies for a prolonged period of time for no reason. Colicky babies usually have distended bellies, release gas, raise their legs to the chest, and bend or arch their backs. 

    Renal colic- It is a severe and uncontrollable crying in babies for a prolonged period of time for no reason. Colicky babies usually have distended bellies, release gas, raise their legs to the chest, and bend or arch their backs.

    Intestinal colic- It is a severe and uncontrollable crying in babies for a prolonged period of time for no reason. Colicky babies usually have distended bellies, release gas, raise their legs to the chest, and bend or arch their backs. 

    Spasmodic dysmenorrhoea- also called abdominal cramps. It is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience. It is associated with irregular periods. It occurs just before or during the periods. 

    Symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome- It is also called irritable bowel colitis. Mucous colitis, spastic colon, nervous colon, and spastic bowel. It is an inflammatory bowel disease that affects the large intestine. Symptoms of IBS include abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhoea, mucus in stools, wind constipation, tiredness, anxiety, depression, heartburn, indigestion, and headaches. 

    Useful tips for managing colic and dysmenorrhoea 

    • Avoid or limit the intake of caffeine or alcohol. 
    • Manage stress, eat healthy foods, exercise regularly, drink plenty of fluids, and get adequate sleep. 
    • Limit the amount of fibre in your diet, foods, and drinks that contain chocolate, fructose, sorbitol, Carbonated drinks, and fried and fatty foods. 
    • Do not have large meals at a time; try having small and simpler meals at regular intervals. Include fresh vegetables and fruits in your diet. 
    • If you cannot take dairy products like milk, then include other calcium-rich foods like green leafy vegetables, beans, nuts, and seeds. 
    • If you have lactose intolerance, avoid dairy foods, which may worsen irritable bowel syndrome. 
    • Recreation techniques and yoga can be practiced to manage your emotional stress. 
    • Do not indulge in activities like hard exercises. 

    Key points to remember while taking cyclopam Tablets

    • It should be taken only under a doctor’s guidance. 
    • Tell your doctor about stomach/intestinal problems and diarrhoea due to intestine surgeries like ileostomy and colostomy.
    • Pregnant and breastfeeding women should use the cyclopam tablet with caution.
    • The use of the cyclopam tablets may cause blurry vision and dizziness, affecting mental attention. 
    • Cyclopam Tablets should be given to children only under a doctor’s guidance.
    • Alcohol should not be combined with the cyclopam tablet as it may worsen the side effects of the medicine. 
    • Taking cyclopam Tablets along with the antacids may lower the absorption of the cyclopam and reduce its efficiency, too. Maintain a gap between cyclopam and antacids intake.
    • The use of cyclopam tablets may sometimes cause diarrhoea. In the case of diarrhoea, increase the intake of fluids; if diarrhoea still persists, talk to your doctor. 
    • Dry mouth is another side effect of the cyclopam tablet. To overcome this, drink plenty of water and reduce spicy foods.

    The cyclopam tablet works by relaxing the muscles and inhibiting natural gut movements. It relieves muscle cramps and spasms in the stomach and intestine, abdominal pain, constipation, and Gastrointestinal discomforts.
