How to Create a Cohesive Boho Bedroom

Embodying a bohemian aesthetic, you can create the cohesive and colourful bedroom of your dreams. It’s about finding a balance. You can’t just throw a bunch of colours together and hope for the best. You need to be selective and strategic about your combinations.

By taking on a boho interior design, you can make your bedroom feel vibrant and lively. Reviving your energy after a long day just by looking at your room.

    Bold Colours

There are a wide range of colour palettes for you to choose from. You’ll want to layer these with a base hue, accent shades and complementary colours.

For base colours, think about a neutral palette for your walls and large pieces of furniture. Whites, beiges, light greys, etc. These then provide you with a blank canvas to incorporate vibrant boho elements.

You should use two or three main accent colours consistently throughout your bedroom. Think about turquoise, mustard yellow and terracotta.

Then add a few complementary colours, but in smaller quantities than the other two. This can help add depth and interest to your space. Drawing the eye to the minute details.

    Prints and Patterns

Can’t choose between two patterns? Use both. With boho décor, you can layer prints and patterns together. Matching them intricately to create a cohesive appearance. Busy, but not overcrowded.

Think about incorporating patterns onto your walls or if that’s a bit too much for your eyes, consider an accent wall. You could have an intricate floral design on one wall with bold greens on your surrounding ones.

There are many other ways to include patterns and prints into your boho-chic bedroom. You could install parquet flooring, choosing from its array of vibrant patterns, or you could think smaller. Using rugs, bedding, furniture and decorative accents to float prints around your space.

    Nature

An essential part to any boho space is the inclusion of plants. They entice the eye and breathe life into your bedroom. The untameable nature of plants embodies the freedom of bohemian aesthetic as they grow and flow all over the place.

Fill your bedroom with hanging plants, potted plants and more. Think about a variety of species, big and small, like cacti and monstera plants. You can get an array of succulents too. Make sure to get plants you can look after though – you don’t want them dying within days!

Natural materials are also an important aspect of boho design, which is shown by using wood, jute, rattan and macrame.

    Textiles and Textures

Layer your textiles; soft knitted blankets, tasselled throws, plush pillows, billowy curtains, etc. This keeps your boho bedroom relevant for the colder months. These can all be covered in bright colours, bold prints and demanding patterns. You could even consider framing textiles!

    Furniture and Decor

Vintage finds and DIY are your friends in bohemian design. You want to keep an eye out for vintage pieces of furniture that embody the eclectic nature of boho along with any unique trinkets you want to use for décor. After all, bohemian design is about collecting! Alongside thrifting, you can create some incredible additions for your room that fits with the aesthetic. Even if it’s just a paint job!

With your decoration, think about personal trinkets, mementos and souvenirs; pieces that hold treasured memories. A mix of artwork, tapestries and mirrors are great additions to your walls. Make sure to look for pieces that incorporate your chosen colour palette; this will help you stick to your cohesive aesthetic.

    Lighting

You’ll want to keep the lighting low and soft. Incorporating bedside lamps and wall lights allow for a more subtle and gentle glow as opposed to the harshness of overhead lighting. Don’t forget about string lights or fairy lights, which add a whimsical touch to your bedroom. Enhancing the comfort and creating a sense of romance too.
